This is a challenge to debate anyone on the subject of Floyd Mayweather Jr being the best p4p in boxing.
I say he isn't because he can't be. He can't be because boxing is not structured to enable the best fighters to emerge from a ladder of contention. Where say there's ten fighters, they all fight each other and the winners move up and the losers go down. Whoever beats everyone moves up in rank and eventually gets to challange the top contender. If he beats the top contender, he gets a mandated shot at the title.
Once he gets a title, he must become part of a tournament involving all other title holders in that weight class.
They duke it out and the last man standing is
The Champion of that division.
The system used by Boxing today don't do that. There is no Ranking System to speak on, just who's promoter can bribe the sanctioning bodies into giving their fighter a high rank so he can fight this or that big name fighter.
Floyd has massaged that system straight to the phoney title of Best P4P fighter in boxing.
Floyd has campaigned at 147 for what...4 years and how many 147 pound fighters has he fought?
1...Carlos Baldomir, who entered the fight with 9 losses and was near the end of his suddenly famous career.
2...JM Marquez, a natural 135 pounder who had to move up to 147 to fight Floyd.
When it comes to opponents, Floyd always HAND PICKS who he will fight. He never fights mandatories. He didn't defend his WBC title at 147 for 2 years and nobody stripped him...
So I submit to you (sound of crickets...) Floyd Mayweather Jr may be very talented a fighter but he's NOT the best fighter in boxing by a LONG shot. The way things are run today, there's no real way to know who's the best since its not merit based comp, its free lance promoter driven "entertainment".
PS...Floyd didn't fight Manny cause he's scared.
